Here are some things to think about when you are getting divorced.  Taking the time to complete each item can make the transition easier.

1. Make sure to sign up for a new email address. With a new user name and password. Also get your own computer so your spouse will not have access to it.
2. Get a post office box so you can receive communications from your divorce attorney.
3. Get your own cell phone account
4. Get a copy of your credit report – Make any corrections if necessary.
5. Open a new bank account, use a new address for this account
6. Make copies of all your tax forms
7. Video your property, identify items that were gifts or inherited, and which items you brought into the marriage.
8. Apply for your own credit cards
9. Consider closing or freezing joint accounts
10. Request an earning statement for you and your spouse from the Social Security Administration
